I'll be frank, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.

Just a couple clicks and a customer can set an order with a freelancer based on a specific set of deliverables.

Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a cost. A significant one.

This is one the couple freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail sellers any way they like.

Why?

In this informative article, I would like to discuss a recent bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, also why I chose to give up on the platform altogether.

How A Normal Order Instantly Turned Into A Hostage Situation

(I have been advising her building up a reputable accounts, and how to go above and beyond every last order. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an observer.)

In this case, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which appeared to be just like another... or so we believed.

The order was fulfilled in good time, and my buddy had even included a bonus logo concept in addition to the source file (that is usually a part of the pricier package).

The client"loved" among the concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the final description.

The customer came back asking for a social networking kit to choose the emblem, something that is clearly not available as part of her post.

Against my advice, my buddy decided to provide the additional job, despite not getting paid any extra for it.

Following that, the customer responded with more requirements and a few modifications to the social media files.

At this time, she concurred enough was enough.

Despite every attempt to please this individual, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.

This is when the client went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)

While she took a while to contemplate a reply and reach to Fiverr support for assistance, the customer did eventually go right ahead and render a 1 star review.

Presumably this was to show her he/she was The Ultimate Guide To Freelancing Websites - The Mini Millionaire not kidding.

Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the client paid an extra $10 for the social networking kit.

Naturally, the payment was accompanied by still another danger.

At this point, all I wanted to do was move all Liam Neeson and hunt this person down so that I could punch them from the face.

But, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr support could step in and save my girlfriend from that PITA client.

When the response came from Fiverr service, they told that they couldn't Fiverr acquires And Co, maker of software for freelancers TechCrunch force the buyer to accept the order.

Okay, that is reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)

In addition they suggested drawing up a list for the buyer to show the job was done in accordance to the gig prerequisites.

Honestly, this response just didn't cut the mustard.

My girlfriend communicated in her initial email that the client was hoping to extort her for free work out the agreed periods, by leaving a negative inspection if she didn't comply.

Obviously, it wasn't really about the work, it was about seeking protection against an abusive customer who was intentionally pushing his luck.

Their reply didn't give either of us some confidence that Fiverr really understood , and even at this stage we felt like they didn't want to get involved.

At the exact same time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.

(Again, this will be comments that was clearly and blatantly made to bully her into providing work outside of the agreed terms.)

A fair request by anyones standards, correct? Well, apparently not.

Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.

Turns out, she was the one breaking all of the rules.

Since she had requested the client to modify their feedback, she was no longer entitled to any assistance from Fiverr assistance.

It is possible to imagine how we both felt reading this.

Everything that the purchaser had said and done before her final message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any respect.

Fiverr essentially chose to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an accounts she'd worked so tough to build up.

And think, there are tons of buyers doing precisely this on Fiverr, knowing they can and will eliminate it.

Well, as all of this was happening, I did some research to find out whether any read this other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.

Quite quickly, I found a variety of almost identical cases on the Fiverr forum dated years back. (that's right, years.)

This is clearly something which's been going on for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers also much power over sellers.

When there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.

Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on itor maybe how well you managed communication in a dispute, even when it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no security.

Even if it's a very clear cut situation in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out at the top. It takes it one tiny thing that you"did no way" according to their terms of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded

Taking a look at the signs, it's obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet remains keen to sit back and let it happen.

If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support processes for freelancers.

It's not right that somebody can set all that time and effort into establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible opportunity, just to be taken down from the very people you rely on to protect you.

Look, I don't want to leave Fiverr. I don't want to be telling people to prevent your platform.

But after everything that's happened, you haven't left me any decision.

Until something is done in order to shield freelancers from this type of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do anything I could to stop others from falling victim to a one-sided support staff.

The next you truly do something about it and also give freelancers a means to fight , I'll be happy to update this post.
